SF Cutters' Netiquette
Here are some guidelines to make sure our list stays as informative and as helpful as possible. There are informal rules of the internet which are termed netiquette to help people use proper etiquette within this form of communication. We have modified a few of them to suit our group, which has kept this list a force in the video post-production community for over 7 years.

Please read them carefully.

1. Remember that replies automatically go to the list, not the just the person who posted the message. You need to change the to: address to respond to an individual. Please note this when someone asks to be mailed directly because they are on the digest version.

2. Please avoid using all CAPS in your message. This is the online equivalent of yelling.

3. Do not send announcement messages to the list with out first
getting permission from the list admin (see the bottom of this page).

4. Never send attachments to the list. If you need to send share
some type of attachment, please contact the list admin (see the bottom of this page) as it is possible that your information belongs on the web site.

5. Many email programs send messages as styled text by default. Please turn HTML and other styled text off when posting to our list.

6. Don't use PGP encryption on your messages. A lot of people
(probably most) won't be able to read your post.

7. Please quote only the relevant portion of messages you respond to--and please quote some of the original message so others know what you're responding to. Please remove all signature and footer lines from your replies.

8. When asking a question, please provide as much relevant data as possible. With FCP it really helps to know machine info, OS, QT version and more.

9. When responding to a digest post, please change the subject to match that of the original message.

10. Please keep your posts as on topic as possible. This site and
list are for users of Final Cut Pro. Sometimes questions will arise
that you may want to pose to the list. When posting an off topic
question, please use "OT:" in the subject.

11. Please sign (type your name) all messages posted to the list. In addition to being appropriate, it also provides a way for others to address you.

12. Signature lines
•We all want to know who we're communicating with, but keep your signatures to a minimum.
•Many e-mail clients wrap text at 80 characters, so check that your signature won't wrap badly because of this.

13. Although subscribers may offer specific equipment and services to the list or share an exceptional bargain they have discovered, explicitly commercial posts are prohibited. Any address or domain posting such will be blocked.

14. Assume Responsibility
Since all list subscribers have the power to post directly to the
list, this can make for an environment of open and timely discussion as well as an environment where irrelevant and unconstructive comments may accrue. The list monitor(s) will make their best attempt to keep the discussion on track. All list members are requested to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner at all times. Please route disputes to private email.

15. Discipline
Please respect the monitor's necessary role to end discussion threads when they're deemed inappropriate. Uncooperative members may have their posting privileges and/or subscription privileges removed.

16. Message Receipts
Please don't send any message receipts or automatic replies to the list. Otherwise, your message receipts and automatic replies will go out to the whole list. We have configured the list server to handle many such misposts, but there may be some that still make it to the list. Please assume some responsibility in this regard.

17. Limit of Liability
The list owners, monitors/moderators, operators or sponsors are in no way responsible for any direct or indirect damage as a result from involvement with this list.

18. Usage Rights
Participants who post to this list grant rights to the list owner to
include their posts in a searchable archive and grant permission to use the posts as part of a complete list archive in other mediums. Participants may compile a personal archive of all posts made to this list, but are not permitted to distribute, publish or make available to others such archived information without the prior express written consent of Create More, Inc. and SF Cutters.

19. Any abuse of the list will result in being banned from the list.
